Choosing the Right Frame Style depends on how you will use and store the drum truck.
- Two-wheel models: Good choice if only occasional use is required
- Self-standing types: Easy to store
- Four-wheel models: For all-day work because they take the load off the operator and the back wheels make pallet loading and unloading much easier
Steel and Aluminum Trucks: Strong, durable, economical, and ruggedly built
- Aluminum trucks: Less weight than steel trucks, less effort to move
- Non-sparking if you are working in flammable environments
- Models available to handle loads up to 1,200 pounds
Chime Hooks: The usual method for catching the top rim of the drum
- It can be tilted and transported on the truck
- If your drums don’t have a top rim: Select a truck that secures the drum with a nylon belt
Tires: An important factor in your selection of a drum truck
- Molded rubber or polyolefin tires: Well suited to smooth concrete or wood floors and have a high load capacity
- Pneumatic or semi-pneumatic tires: On rough or badly cracked concrete or gravel
Brakes: Available on higher end drum trucks and easily worth their additional cost
- When moving a full drum down from the nose of a 53’ trailer, it can speed up and be difficult to slow down
- Easy and safe speed control
Drainer Trucks: Hybrid trucks, which function not only as a drum truck but also as a drum cradle
- Drain off fluid from your barrel into a bucket
- To drain from your drum: You will need a drum faucet ranging in sizes from ¾” and 2” drum faucets
