What’s the Right Drum for the Job?

The drum (or barrel as some call it) has been around for centuries, and they’re so common that most people don’t think much about them. There are so many things you can do with a drum: you can store water or fuel for the climate crisis that we all know is always just around the corner or use it as flotation for your pontoon boat. Lawn furniture, vegetable gardens, adorable kiddie trains. You can use it for grilling steaks or smoking a turkey or turn one into a musical instrument.

No wonder folks call them the most versatile container ever invented! Don’t get me started about buckets!

BUT, you’re probably reading this because it’s your job to be serious about how to safely and securely package, ship and store your company’s products. The drums in this mini-catalog are just a few of our many hundreds of ways to do that job. There isn’t one drum that “does it all”, but there is one company that does: BASCO!

Drum users all over the world are discovering that the service you get both before and after they buy is just as important – or more - as the packaging itself. Sure, we have all the drums you’ll ever need, and we always offer them at competitive prices. And we’ll help you get the right one.

Get a drum that “plays nice” with your products.

  • If it’s hazardous (flammable, corrosive), pay attention to the required UN rating, and make sure the drum material is compatible.
  • Food products need food-grade drums, and you may need a liner for product protection.

How will you fill the drum, and how will it be emptied?

  • Tight-head drums are great for free-flowing liquids.
  • Heavier products cry out for an open-head drum, or for products that will be scooped out or dumped.
  • Hot-filled products usually do better in steel drums.
  • Liners are a great option to help with your dispensing needs.

What size drum do you need?

  • A filled 55 gallon drum is the largest size that can be handled by one person with a hand truck.
  • Smaller drums down to 8 gallons may be needed in tight spaces or to hold a convenient quantity of product.

Our 75+ years of experience means we’ve got the answers, and our unmatched product selection means you always get the drums that are right for you.

Fact is, we add value by applying product knowledge. BASCO is filled with the most knowledgeable, thoughtful people in industry. We’ll help you get it Right, the first time, every time.

Ahhhhhhh, relax. Your work made easy - that’s the BASCO Touch.
