Benefits of Polyethylene Drums

Also referred to as plastic drums, polyethylene drums which are used for several industrial purposes are manufactured using high density, high molecular weight polyethylene (HDPE). The polyethylene barrel is excellent and more suitable for industrial purposes because the HDPE material used for making the barrels are inert and highly resistant to low or high pH contents.

Furthermore, qualities such as thick, durable side-walls, UV resistant and leak-proof make them perfect for storing food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or even harvesting rainwater without contaminating the content. The polyethylene drum has what it takes to serve all your residential, commercial, and industrial storage and containment needs.

How to Use/Handle Polyethylene Drums

Polyethylene drums serve as excellent containers for the transportation of hazardous chemicals and goods. However, adequate caution must be taken while using the polyethylene drum. Below is a guide to the proper usage of the polyethylene barrel:

  • Safely handle the polyethylene barrel to avoid any risk of serious accident or spillage.
  • For the transportation or containment of hazardous chemicals, please verify the Hazardous Material Regulations (HMR) instructions, to certify that the polyethylene barrel is suitable for such chemicals.
  • While handling, do not roll the polyethylene drums.
  • Use pallets with proper dimension to pack and move the polyethylene drums.
  • While stacking more than one polyethylene drum, ensure that the loads are evenly distributed.
  • When transporting hazardous chemicals, avoid exposing the polyethylene drums to direct sunlight or UV light to avoid an explosion.

Selecting the Appropriate Polyethylene Drums

Selecting the wrong polyethylene barrel can cost you your business. You risk the contents being contaminated or drum failure. At the end of the day, you will be given fines and penalties for noncompliance with certain regulations.

During the containment or shipment of hazardous material, under the Hazardous Material Regulations, you must select the right package that is best suited for the particular application. Check the HMR and the container label to determine if the polyethylene barrel is appropriate for the chemical being shipped.

At BASCO, we have a large selection of poly barrels for sale. These polyethylene drums are capable of serving all your commercial and industrial containment and shipping needs. They are of high quality and meet up with hazardous material regulations and standards.
