Visa and MasterCard each now support a global e-commerce solution that enables cardholders to re-authenticate themselves to their issuer when making purchases.

If you have a Visa or MasterCard from an Issuer participating in one of these programs, you will be presented an additional verification page window hosted by your Card Issuer during the checkout process.
The window will ask you for additional information to verify your idenity, which can vary based upon what your bank decides. For example, it could be your phone number, your address, or even the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
