The BASCO Advisor Says...

6 Points for Safer Transport of Your Drums and Pails

  1. What’s the size and weight of the pail or drum? BASCO - Tilting Drum Dolly

  2. Will the drum need to be tilted while still on the dolly?

  3. Do you need to heat a steel drum on its dolly?

  4. What type of surface are you moving across?

  5. Need a double drum dolly? Or Spark-Resistant?

  6. Would a dolly that catches incidental spills and drips be helpful?

Dollies are available in a variety of materials:

  • Stainless steel dollies are a top priority in food and pharmaceutical operations because they are FDA and USDA compliant.

  • Carbon steel dollies are heavy-duty, welded for maximum strength.

  • Molded HDPE and polyurethane dollies are corrosion-proof, chemical resistant, and come in a range of sizes and colors for easy visibility in your plant.

Style features you will want to consider:

  • Material and number of casters

  • Size adjustability

  • Heat sensitive materials might require a heated dolly

Caster material makes a difference:

  • Polyolefin is chemical resistant and non-marking.  It is generally a lower cost choice

  • Phenolic is a very hard compound that has excellent load carrying characteristics and is used to move very heavy loads

  • Steel is also for heavy duty jobs but they are noisy and will mark up a floor

  • Moldon Rubber are actually cast iron wheels that have rubber molded directly to them. They have the strength of steel but are quiet and have shock absorbing properties

  • Rubber is ideal for general purposes or light duty applications.  They are very quiet and will not mark up floors
